701 Café

By December 14, 2016

It’s lunchtime. The time when we search for something different and unique to eat to help us finish our day strong. Options are weighed. Fast food and leftovers are not appealing. Luckily, there is one place in the heart of the city that offers a break from the mundane. That place is 701 Café.

701 Café is the creation of its owner, Christopher Young, who has introduced a new word to Newton: Gourmet. Chris had always dreamed of having his own restaurant, and after years of searching for an opportunity, the opportunity came to him. Passion for creating excellent food and love for the city of Newton combined to create the restaurant of his dreams.

Described by Chris as the Panera of Newton, it certainly puts a Newton twist on the traditional sandwich shop. With unique offerings like the Eddie Muenster, the Veggie Me Crazy, and the Twisted Reuben, 701 makes a fun and lighthearted introduction of its appetizing dishes to Newtonians. The gourmet sandwiches, salads, and wraps are becoming a favorite around town. Recently, Thursday night at 701 became burger night with scrumptious, juicy, and yes, gourmet burgers being the main attraction.

Sitting on the corner of two of the busiest streets in Newton, 701 has become a lunchtime destination for families, casual friends and formal business colleagues. Savory smells greet you at the door, and the cozy décor makes you feel right at home. A small stage up front provides a venue for live music, and the beautiful vintage gold ceiling sets the tone for a one-of-a-kind experience.

701 Café is unlike anything Newton has had before. It’s different and adventurous, a special gem that Newton has accepted with open arms. Christopher hopes, as many do, that this unique and adventurous energy would spread all across Newton.

“My dream for Newton,” Christopher says, “Is to help change the mindset and overall perception about this town. The ‘It won't work, its Newton’ mentality is a thing of the past. Bring on the future, call for change, and think positively about the City of Newton.”

The city and its culture are growing and changing every day. 701 Café is proof positive that wonderful things are happening here. New opportunities, new people, new life and creativity are flooding into Newton through businesses like 701 Café.

Momentum is building and anticipation is growing to see more of Newton Reborn. Join the movement as we work together to see key pieces of our city revived, rebuilt and renewed.
